In 2007, North Carolinians sent over 60,000 emails to legislators opposing the Home Tax. This effort stopped a statewide 1% land transfer tax. At the same time, 78% of voters surveyed said they oppose new taxes on homes.
But that did not stop some lawmakers from passing the 2007 budget, and allowing local politicians to put a Home Tax on the ballot.
But just as they did during the legislative session, voters at the local level have, in the last two years, soundly rejected the idea of a new Home Tax.
It’s simple: voters know that taxing the equity in their homes is a bad idea because it hurts young couples, working families and our senior citizens. It’s a tax on the equity in your home, on your hard work and your success.
Learn more about how you can help stop the Home Tax in your community, and let statewide lawmakers understand---once and for all---that voters don’t want a Home Tax!
